For best results with a goosewinged cruising chute or genoa, the pole should be about 30% longer than the standard spinnaker pole. A fixed length spar of this size is very difficult to handle and stow - hence the telepole.
Made from standard Seldén heat treated anodised aluminium tubes, Telepoles have low friction glass filled nylon bearings for smooth operation and long life. The locking mechanism consists of two delrin plunger buttons, held by a stainless steel spring for positive location at each set position.
The correct telepole for a given yacht depends on the anticipated use. If it is to be used purely as a whisker pole for the clew of a genoa or cruising chute, displacement is the selection factor. If it is to be used for a spinnaker where the loadings are much greater, the yachts "J" measuremnt is the selection factor. "J" is usually taken to be the horizontal distance between the forestay attachment to the deck and the front of the mast.
